Times Tables

Times Tables at Leverton

Children throughout the school are expected to learn their times tables at speed.

Children in Year 2 should be able to recall multiplication facts for the 2 times table, 5 times table and 10 times table, including division facts by the end of their year in school. It is preferred that these children are able to do this without the need for counting on their fingers.
Children in Year 3 should be able to recall their 2x, 5x 10x 3x 4x 8x tables, including division facts by the end of their year in school. It is preferred that children are able to do this without the need for counting on their fingers.
Children in Year 4 should be able to recall all of their times tables up to 12×12 at speed. At Leverton our aim is that children can complete a Times Tables Speed Check in under 5 mins and 30 seconds (30 seconds per times table)
Children in Year 5 and year 6 who do not know their times tables up to 12×12 cannot be classed as ‘Working At’ age related expectation.

We have subscribed to which is a website aimed at improving the speed of times table knowledge. Every child has access to this site from Year 1 on and are able to practise their times tables at their own leisure. We have begun holding termly competitions for prizes to increase the amount the children practise at home.

Parents have requested that Year 1 children have access to as well, despite this not being an essential part of the National Curriculum. Accordingly, Year 1 children can now practise their 2x table on the website.
