Headteacher’s Comments

There seems to be a bit of confusion regarding the organisation at lunchtimes.  Because we are a growing school (36 children more than 2 years ago), we are finding it hard to fit all the children into our dining room at lunchtimes.  The Governing Body is looking at how to improve the lunchtime facilities and these changes should happen over the Easter holidays.  However, during the winter months children who have a packed lunch may have to eat their lunch on school benches in the school hall if there isn’t any room in the dining room.  In the warmer summer months, children may choose to eat their lunch in the playground.  I hope this clarifies the situation.

Would you leave your front door open?

If we wouldn’t leave our front door open, then why do so many of our children have open profiles on Facebook?  This Tuesday was ‘Safer Internet Day’.  I spoke to children in assembly about ways to stay safe when using the Internet.  It is all our responsibility to ensure our children are safe on the Internet. Please read the information on the back of the Newsletter.

Charity Donations

This week I received two letters of thanks regarding donations that the school have made.   The first was from MacMillan Cancer Support for the donation of £40.90 made during the World’s Biggest Coffee Morning in October and the second from Haven House Children’s Hospice of £125.47, following the collection at the Christmas Service.  Thank you to all parents who made donations.  Both letters can be found on the board in the entrance hall.

Homework Club

Please check your child’s homework before they attend Homework Club, as recently there have been some children who have attended with homework they can only do at home.

Contact Details

If you have changed your mobile number please make sure that you have told us.  The school office has tried to make contact with some parents recently and they have not been able to because we do not have the correct number.

We had another successful Cross Country competition against other Epping Forest schools.  Sydie Peck came 1st in the Year 4 race with Charlie Pegrum coming 3rd.   Kasey Lane came 6th in the Year 6 race.  The team results are as follows:

Would you speak to someone you never met and tell them about yourself?

During the Half Term Holidays please make sure your child:

  1. Check privacy settings so only ‘friends’ can see any information
  2. Delete anyone your child hasn’t met in the ‘real’ world
  3. Disable location service (GPS)

Tips to keep your child safe on the Internet:

  1. Ensure your child uses the Internet in your view (not behind closed door eg bedroom)
  2. Give time limits for your child to be on the Internet
  3. Check your child’s profile regularly to ensure it doesn’t contain personal information and information that shouldn’t be shared.
