Headteacher’s Comments

There are an increasing amount of children who are turning up late.  Children should be on the school playground by 8:45am.  Letters have been sent out to parents advising them on a monthly basis the number of times their child has been late.  If this lateness continues after this initial letter, then parents will be informed that any future lateness will mean that children will have to make up missed learning time during their break times.

Well done to  Flora So, Daisy Everett,  Ruby Chillingworth, Kye Page (Miss Kent’s Class), Mika Cox-Cunningham, Connor Dunkin, Tia Joseph, Samaya Kaleel, Kishari Francis,  Max Sichel, Archie Hemmings, Jay Hyams, James Warner, Alfie Willis, Tommy Hammond, Barney Sheldrake, Ben Rowe (Mr Davey’s) Kyla Erkan (Mrs Sach’s Class) Francesca Wood, Charlie Santagata, Milan Sharman, Teddy White, Brendan Crosbie, Kyle Kadiri (Miss Biggs’s Class) who received Green Cards this week.

Well done to Mrs Sach’s class who had the best attendance this week with 99.1%.

Parent Classes (20 January- 1:30pm)

This is a reminder that there are still places on the maths classes for parents.  These are held every Monday at 1:30pm.

Club Española (20 January 8:15am)

Mrs May’s Spanish Club will be on Monday 20 and 27 January, 3, 10 and 24 February and 3, 10 and 17 March.  It is open to all children and starts at 8:15 and will be in the ICT Suite.  There is no cost to this club.

School Council Elections (22 January)

It is that time of year when we are asking children to become school councillors.  If your child is interested they need to write a passage why they think they should become a school councillor (linked to the school behaviour values) and bring it into school on Wednesday.  They will then read their passage to the class and the class will vote.

PTA Meeting (24 January 9am)

The next PTA meeting will be held on Friday 24 January at 9am.  All parents welcome.

Coffee Mornings (Year 3/4- Mon 27 January/ Year 5/6- Wed 29 January- both starting at 9am)

This term’s coffee mornings will be on Monday 27 and Wednesday 29 January.  Coffee Mornings give you an opportunity to hear current developments at school and also to hear your feedback about how the school is working.  If you can’t make your particular year group day, please feel free to come on another day.  Nans and Granddads are also welcome.  You will get an exciting FREE GIFT!!!

Dads’ drink with Mr Woollcott (Tues 28 January at Volunteer Pub starting at 7pm)

I would like to take Dads out for a drink on Tuesday 28 January.  We will be meeting at the Volunteer at 7pm.  This is a chance for Dads to hear current developments at school and also to hear their feedback about how the school is working. You will get an exciting FREE GIFT!!!

Bags2Bag Fundraising (29 January)

This is a reminder that The Bags2Bag sacks need to be back by 29 January.  We will earn 50p for every 1kg.   You can use black bags or recycling sacks if you have more than one bag to fill.  This is a great way of supporting the school’s PTA without costing you a penny.

Whole School Trip- 20 May

Following the success of last year’s trip, I am pleased to announce the details of this year’s whole school trip to National Gallery and National Portrait Gallery in London.

Date:                Tuesday, 20 May 2014

Time                8:30am to 5:00pm

Cost                 £5

Clothing           Full school uniform (coat if cold and damp/sunhat if hot)

Food                Packed lunch brought in school bag

As we do not have to pay for the entrance and workshops this year, the total cost of the trip is £2,500 (£9.72 per child).  We have managed to secure some funding.  Therefore, we are asking for every child to pay £5 towards the trip.  If you have a problem with paying this, please arrange to speak to me.

After School Club- 3:15- 6pm.

The After School Club is now up and running.  Each session costs £8 and includes a snack.  Payment will need to be made in advance.  Please ask the School Office for a registration pack.

Parking and Dropping Off

This is once again a reminder about being considerate about parking around the school.  Parents are still dropping off their children in front of the gate.  This adds danger to those who are crossing and also makes it dangerous for any staff/ visitors to enter the school car park.  Parents are also double parking along Honey Lane.  The local council is investigating parking restrictions along Honey Lane.  If these come into force then parents will be forced to park further away from the school.  Essex Police advise to park 5 minutes away from the school and then walk the remainder into the school.

School Bags

This is a reminder that every child should have a black school book bag.  Space is limited inside and outside our classrooms, therefore, we require all children to have a black Leverton school bag.  Every child receives their first school bag free.  If you need to replace the bag, you can purchase the school bags from the school office or online at  Once you have logged onto the Tesco site click onto the following instructions: school uniform / uniform embroidery services / find your school / Essex/The Leverton Junior School / shop now.
