Headteacher’s Comments

Other clubs, especially run by outside agencies, will be sending leaflets home in the next couple of weeks. Please encourage your child to join a club; they may discover a talent for something they didn’t know they had.

Netball Club (Monday and Tuesday Evenings)
Mrs Rumens will be continuing to run the netball clubs this year and will be providing training for year 5 and 6 on a Monday after school and on a Tuesday after school for year 3 and 4. Matches for those who make the school team will be played throughout the year. There are a number of places still left for the two sessions.
King Harold talk (Monday 28 September)
During the afternoon of Monday 28 September 2015 Kim Thackray, the new headteacher of King Harold, will be in school speaking to Year 5 and Year 6 children. If you would like to come and meet her after school and have an informal chat, please come to the school office.
Year 6 Visit to King Harold (Thursday 1 October- 1:00- 3:15pm)
All the children in Year 6 will be spending the afternoon at King Harold on Thursday 1 October. They will be walked there by their class teachers and will return to school by 3:15pm. Please make sure your child has a coat with them.
Football Club (Wednesday and Thursday Evenings)
As of next week (21st September) Football club for year 3 and 4 will resume on a Wednesday after school with Coach Dan. The children will meet in the hall after school and will be finished around 4:15. This is limited to 16 places on a first come, first serve basis. Please put your child’s name down on the list held in the school office. Football for the Football Team will be on a Thursday evening for training and matches will be played throughout the year with Mr Waldron. Our first match against Whitebridge will be played on Wednesday 23rd September at Stade de Leverton!
Playleaders (Lunchtimes)
Next week children in year 6 will be invited to join the playleaders. They will be asked to complete an application form, detailing what they can bring to the role. Once short-listed, they will be trained to manage and plan activities and games for the lower years in the school and, later on in the term, help the infant school with their lunchtime activities. This is an important role that needs weekly commitment.
Star Club (Thursday Lunchtimes)
By the end of next week children will be invited to join our Star Club. This club is for our Gifted and Talented children and will aim to develop their independence and resilience. This will be done through tasks set each week. The club will meet weekly.
Times Table Club (Lunchtimes)
Times Table Club at lunch time is back on. Children are encouraged to come along to the Intervention Room and test their times table knowledge in order to achieve Bronze, Silver and Gold certificates. Also available during this club is the opportunity to visit the ICT suite where Times Table Trainer games will be available for children to practise and improve their speed. The timetable for this club is as follows:
Monday | Tuesday | Wednesday | Thursday | Friday |
Year 4 | Year 3 | Year 6 | Year 5 | Platinum |
The order of learning the times tables has changed to reflect the new curriculum.
The order is now: 2, 5, 10, 3, 4, 8, 11, 6, 9, 7 & 12.
