Headteacher’s Comments

One of my roles as Headteacher is to monitor the teaching and learning within the school. This week Mrs Campbell, Miss Gibbs and I have been looking at the standard of handwriting across the school. A child is awarded a ‘Pen Licence’ if they consistently join their handwriting correctly. We gave back feedback to some of the children, telling them what they need to do to be awarded a Pen Licence. We will be looking at the books again on 14 October, so children have an opportunity to write neatly to show they can earn a Pen Licence.

You can encourage your child to have neat handwriting by:

  • Making sure all letters (apart from d and e) start at the top
  • The letters b, g, j, p, y are not joined to the next letter

We follow the Nelson Handwriting Scheme with the letters formed as follows:

Well done to the PTA who raised a staggering £944.32 at last week’s Inflatable Day. Thank you to all the parents who came forward to help during the afternoon. If you are interested to sit on the committee and help organise the events or simply be available to help out during the events, please return the slip below. All proceeds go into buying items that enhance your child’s experiences at the school, which the school budget does not cover, for example improving the facilities in the playground (outside stage/ table tennis tables) and facilities in the school (lights for production/ sound system).

Well done to the school’s football team who won their first match against Whitebridge Junior School 7-0.

Harvest Festival (19th October 2pm – NEW DATE!)

Our Year 4 children have been busy working on our Harvest Festival Assembly to showcase the work we have been doing on our current topic of ‘Harvest’. Family and friends are invited to watch the assembly at 2pm. We have, in the past, collected food items for a local charity and this year our chosen charity is the local Foodbank. We would like to continue this tradition, as last year our two schools together donated over 2 tonnes of food to be distributed. If you would like to contribute gifts of tinned food or packets of non-perishable goods, these would be welcome from any child in the school from Monday 12th October. Thank you!
