Headteacher’s Comments
I would like to take this opportunity to wish everyone a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. 2012 will certainly be a year to remember, the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee and a summer of great sport when London hosted the Olympics. These two events helped bring communities together and I hope that in 2013 we, at The Leverton Junior School, can build on these legacies.
Attendance
Well done to Miss Wood’s Class who had the best attendance last week. Well done to the 58 children who had 100% attendance since September.
Last Day of Term
This is a reminder that the last day of term will be Thursday 20 December 2012. We return at 8:45 on Monday 7 January.
First Day Back
We start back on Monday 7 January with children lining up in the playground at 8:45am.
Next Term’s Topics
Alongside this newsletter, you will receive an information leaflet about what your child will be learning about next term. As requested at one of the coffee mornings, next term’s Launch Day will be delayed until Monday 14 January.
Mrs Hubbard
One of our school cooks, Mrs Hubbard, is retiring after working here for many years. On behalf of everyone at the school, I would like to wish Mrs Hubbard a long and happy retirement.
Church Collection
Thank you to everyone who contributed to the collection at the Church on Tuesday. A total of £142.80 was raised for Scotty’s Little Soldiers. Scotty’s Little Soldiers is dedicated to supporting the children of men and women killed whilst serving in the British Armed Forces.
Christmas Art Competition
Mrs McConnell would like to thank all the children for entering the Christmas Art Competition. Congratulations to Amy Edridge who won and Kacper Kurzawa and Daisy Deluca who were the runners up. A total of £8.20 was raised and will be donated to Scotty’s Little Soldiers.
Choir topping the charts
Our school Choir was recorded earlier this term, providing a backing track to a charity single. You can hear our choir by visiting www.youtube.com/watch?v=rdyI0n_ZBJI. Our choir starts singing at 2 mins 54 seconds. Every time the song is downloaded from I-tunes 91% of the royalties is donated to Teens Unite Fighting Cancer.
Help raise money whilst Christmas Shopping
You can still help our school’s PTA raise money when you shop on line, by visiting www.easyfundraising.org.uk.
Primary School League Tables
Last week, the primary school League Tables were published. I am pleased to announce that once again more children in our school attained a level 4 in both English and Maths than in other local schools. Also, more children at our school make the expected progress in English than other schools.
