Headteacher’s Comments

Thank you for your support at the Opening Evening this week.  I hope you took the opportunity to look at your child’s work and meet with your child’s new teacher.  All children in years 2, 3, 4 and 5 have now spent the day with their new teachers and talking with the children throughout the day, everyone seemed settled and happy.

Well done to Mollie-Anne Maduro-Moore, Zoe- Le-Couch, Jodie Richardson, Grace-Hannah Rood, Albert Towell-Hardy (Mrs Campbell’s Class) Tomas Sichel, Raqeeb Hussain, Luke Edridge (Mrs Kaleel’s Class), Abbey Savery (Mr Davey’s Class) who achieved Green Cards this week.

We had a staggering 3 classes with 100% attendance this week.  Well done to Mrs Campbell’s class who had the best attendance this week, as they had the least amount of children who were late during that week.

This is a reminder that Essex’s Education Welfare Service has informed headteachers that from September 2015 a child with attendance under 90% (19 schools days, almost 4 weeks of term) will be classed as a persistent absentee.  If your child’s attendance falls below 90% then an Educational Welfare Officer may be assigned to work with you to help improve your child’s attendance or a penalty notice may be issued.

As at present, a ‘Leave of Absence’ will only be approved if there are exceptional circumstances.  Taking a leave of absence that is not approved or taking a leave of absence without notifying the school may result in Essex County Council issuing a penalty notice.

Sports’ Day (Tuesday 7 July 9:15am)

This year, our Sports Day will take place on Tuesday 7th July and will commence from 9:15am. Your child was informed of their team last week.  If they have one, they can wear a plain t-shirt of that colour.

Olympian Visit (Wednesday 8 July)

On Wednesday 8th July, Olympic Canoeist Etienne Stott who won a gold medal at the London 2012 Olympics will be visiting Leverton Junior School. He will be taking the assembly and will hopefully have time to visit around the classes to show them his gold medal and hopefully the opportunity for us to take some photographs.

First Day Back (Thursday 3 September 2014)

This is a reminder that the first day back is Thursday 3 September.  The children should be ready to line up in the playground at 8:45am.

Meet the Teacher Evening (Thursday 10 September 7pm)

Advance notice that our ‘Meet the Teacher’ evening, where you have a chance to hear what your child will be learning next year, is on Thursday 10 September starting at 7.00pm.  This meeting is unsuitable for children.

Essex County Council has asked me to remind you that all jewellery is to be removed for PE lessons. Taping for any reason is not allowed. They have asked me to advise you that if they intend to have your child’s ears pierced, it would be better to do at the start of the summer holidays to allow time to heal and be able to remove when the new school year starts.
