Headteacher’s Comments

Thank you to all the parents who supported school events this week.  It was great to see so many parents at Sports’ Day and again the following evening at Open Evening; there was a great vibe.  I hope all the children enjoyed their day with their new teachers.

Well done to Mrs Watson’s class who had the best attendance last week.

Cake Sale (Friday 5 July)

Year 6 will be holding a cake sale on Friday 5 July.  If Year 6 children can bring in cakes to sell, the money raised will help towards the cost of the coach that took the children to Crucial Crew.

Library Books (Friday 5 July)

Please make sure your child returns their library books by Friday 5 July.  If your child’s library book is lost then a charge will be incurred.

Year 6 Young Mariners Photographs (5 July)

The Year 6 Team has taken lots of photographs of their recent trip.  If you would like a copy of the photos on a DVD, please put £3 in a named envelope and return it to the class teacher by Friday 5 July.

Bags to School (9 July)

You should have received your ‘Bags 2 School’ sack this week.  Last time the school’s PTA raised £230 from all the clothes that were collected.  This is a great way to support the school’s PTA without costing you a penny!  Please support this event and return your sack by Tuesday 9 July.

Homework Club (Tuesday 16 July)

The last Homework Club will be on 16 July 2013.  Homework Club will then restart in September.

Meet the Teacher Evening (Thursday 5 September 7pm)

Advance notice that our ‘Meet the Teacher’ evening, where you have a chance to hear what your child will be getting up to next year, is on Thursday 5 September starting at 7.00pm.

Website Updated

For those regular visitors to our school website you will notice that this year’s prospectus has now been updated.  Just click on ‘Key information’.  Also, the weekly newsletter is published in the ‘Latest News’ section every Friday.  So if your child forgets to bring the newsletter home or they are absent on a Friday, you can keep up to date with what is happening at LevertonJuniorSchool.

Sports Day

Thank you to everyone who stayed and watched our sports day.  Although on a bit of the chilly side, all the children enjoyed the sports’ activities.  We still haven’t managed to organise a ‘Teachers’ Race’.  The main problem is teachers are becoming much younger, my waist line is expanding and the chance of my winning is becoming slimmer.  The winners of the races are as follows:

 SprintRelayTeachers/ Adults
Year 3Kacper KurzawaMegan BestBrianna Warner, James Warner,Archie Hemming, Tia JosephCancelled due to poor running conditions
Year 4Quacuh AmankwahMia OpinelAlfie Tillbrook, Jacob Sliz,Ella Freeman, Chelsea Lawn

Photograph Competition

On Wednesday night a team of Governors chose the winners of the photographic competition.  Samantha Burton won 1st prize in both the people and animal categories.  Well done to Holly Morris, who won the overall prize for ‘Meet our new member of the class!’ photograph.

National Sports Week

This kicked off with an exciting sports morning and was then followed by our sports afternoon, where all children were spilt across the school and took part in different activities.  A big thank you to Jessica Bruton who came and took part in the afternoon teaching groups of children how to throw a shot put.  We all had a great afternoon.  We also had two martial arts sessions running on Tuesday, we appreciate those being organised and again the children gained a lot of enjoyment from these.  The whole week has been full of sport and now we are all exhausted!

Our local baseball club came and taught some of our children the skills and knowledge of baseball this week. They are very keen for children to join the club, which meets at Townmead, in Waltham Abbey.  They have a game on the 7th July at Townmead from 12.00 against The Harlow Nationals who are the reining UK champions. They need everyone’s support to try to win!!  There is seating for 120 people and it is free to watch.

Year 6 Lost Property (Young Mariners Base)

There have been some items of clothing left at the Young Mariners Base.  Please contact the centre on 01992 628403 to reclaim the items.
