Headteacher’s Comments
Thank you to everyone who attended the Open Evening yesterday. I hope you found it useful and you had a chance to see your child’s work and introduce yourself to your child’s next teacher. I would like to take this opportunity to wish Miss Hovel and Mr Grogan (Trainee Teachers working in Year 5) every success in their chosen career.
Achievements
Annie Smith received a Green Card last week for being a good citizen. Well done to Owen Andrews who displayed outstanding French vocabulary. Well done to Erin Rumens who received a Green Card for an excellent piece of Literacy work. Well done also to Reggie Pegrum and Scarlett Warren who received Green Cards for coming first in all the races in P.E. A Green Card was awarded to Kimberley Murray who helped tidy up for Open Evening. Well done to Charlie Best and Kyri Neophytou for working hard in Maths Booster. Well done everyone!
Attendance
Well done to Miss Biggs’s Class who won best attendance last week.
Sports Day
Fingers crossed that the weather is fine next Tuesday for Sports Day. Approximate times are as follows:
9:15am Start
11:00am Finish- Opportunity to speak to your child
11:20am Children back to classes
As this is Olympic year, the teams will be named after famous British Athletes and associated colours:
Ennis White
Daley Blue
Hoy Red
Phillips Yellow
If your child doesn’t have the particular colour, then they should just wear the school PE kit.
The children already know which team they are in. As in previous years, there will be a mixture of bases for the children to visit, followed by races.
The PTA committee will be running a stall on the day selling Bacon and Sausage Rolls/ Teas/ Coffees/ Soft Drinks and Ice Poles. Children will be able to purchase drinks at break time (11:00 to 11:20am).
Book Stall
Mrs Pentelow will be selling books during Breakfast Club on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday next week. The children have all been given a competition to take part in. These need to be back with Mrs Pentelow by Friday 6 July.
Parking
I have received a complaint from a neighbour about parents’ inconsiderate parking in nearby streets. The Highway Code makes it clear that drivers should not stop or park:
- opposite or within 10 metres (32 feet) of a junction, except in an authorised parking space
- opposite a traffic island or (if this would cause an obstruction) another parked vehicle
- in front of an entrance to a property
- on a bend
Website Updated
For those regular visitors to our school website you will notice that this year’s prospectus has now been updated. Just click on ‘Key information’. Also, the weekly newsletter is published in the ‘Latest News’ section every Friday. So if your child forgets to bring the newsletter home or they are absent on a Friday, then you can keep up to date with what is happening at Leverton Junior School.
Olympic Torch Relay
As many of you know the Olympic Torch is coming to Waltham Abbey on Saturday 7 July. I thought it would be nice to have a place to meet up. Therefore, I am suggesting meeting by McDonalds. I will be there from 8am. The torch will be passing at 8:40am.
Visits
This week, two more visitors came to talk to the children about their jobs. Mr Chimes, a chiropractor and Mr Gilbert, a master technician, gave extremely interesting talks which everyone enjoyed. I would like to say a very big thank you to them both for giving up their time and sharing their knowledge and expertise with us.
Bags to School
You should have received your ‘Bag 2 School’ by now. Last time the school’s PTA raised £230 from all the clothes that were collected. Please support this event and return your sack by Monday 9 July.
Library Books
All Library books need to be returned on Friday 6 July. Any books not returned will have to be paid for (£5 per book). Mrs Tysterman has been working extremely hard this year to increase the number and quality of reading books.
Year 6
Thank you to all children and parents who supported year 6 with their fundraising cake sale; it was a great success!
Homework Club
The last Homework Club of this term will be on Tuesday 10 July. Homework Club will start up again next term.
Olympic Tickets
Leverton Junior School is very lucky. We have been given 3 tickets to an Olympic Football Match! The game is being held at the City of Coventry Football Stadium. It is in the Summer Holidays on Wednesday 25th July at 5pm. The tickets will go to one family. To win these tickets your child needs to write a persuasive letter to Miss Biggs, explaining why they should win. They are to give examples of when they have been a good character. They will be expected to do an Assembly on their trip to the Stadium when they come back in September. The letter has to be given to Miss Biggs by next Friday, 6th July.
