Happy New Year! And what a year 2012 will be. In May and June we will be celebrating the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee. Queen Elizabeth is only the second British Monarch to celebrate this landmark. This will be quickly followed by the Olympics. This is the third time that the Olympics have come to London. We are busy preparing a mammoth Summer Term curriculum so that your children can share in these once in a lifetime experiences.
Coffee Mornings
All parents are welcome at my termly coffee mornings. During the coffee mornings I update you on things that we are developing at our school, as well as giving me an opportunity to hear your views on how we can move the school forward.
Tues 17 January Year 3 Coffee Morning
Wed 18 January Year 4 Coffee Morning
Thurs 19 January Year 5 Coffee Morning
Fri 20 January Year 6 Coffee Morning
Achievements
Well done to Charlie Spillett for working hard in Maths Booster. He was given a Green Card by Ms Cromwell.
Outside Stage
You will probably have noticed that a stage and seating area have been installed in the playground. This was made possible due to the hard work of the school’s PTA fundraising efforts. I hope the children enjoy using it.
Free Swimming Sessions
Alongside this newsletter you will receive a voucher for a free swimming session. If our school has the most children who take up the offer, we will win 3 months free swimming. So please encourage your children to go swimming and use the voucher.
Special Lunch (Australia)
Our next special dinner will be next Tuesday. The menu will be BBQ Chicken, Vegemite Vermicelli (Tomato and Vegemite pasta), Spiced Jacket Wedges and Lamingtons (Chocolate Sponge Cake with chocolate sauce). The cost will be £1.90.
Clubs
Zumbatomic (Mondays 3:15- 4:45pm) and Homework Club (3:15- 4:15pm) will be on next week. Details for Art Club, School Football Team Training, MAD about Sports Clubs (Wednesdays and Thursdays) and Food Club will given out shortly.
Attendance
Alongside this newsletter you will receive a copy of the school’s new Attendance Policy. The policy was agreed by the school’s Governing Body at the end of last term. The main changes are as follows:
- If a child is absent due to illness for more than 3 days then the parent must provide some evidence that they have visited a GP. This could be either a signed compliment slip from the doctor or a photocopy of the prescribed medicine.
- Any child entering the front door between 8:50am and 9:10am will be marked as late.
- If there is regular lateness then your child may have to stay in during playtime or lunchtime to catch up on their work.
- Any child late after 9:10am will be marked as unauthorised absence, unless you provide evidence of a medical appointment eg appointment card/ prescribed medicine or a signed compliment slip from the doctor. A number of unauthorised lateness (after 9:10am) could result in a meeting with the Education Welfare Officer.
The Governing Body has also agreed that our school attendance target should be 96% this year. Currently 137 children out of 227 have attendance above 96%.
Bags2Bag Fundraising
You will soon be receiving a plastic bag, similar to ones that come through your front door. The PTA will earn money for every kilogram of clothes it collects. These need to be returned to school by Wednesday 1 February.
