RE

RE

Religious Education has a significant role for the development of pupils’ spiritual, moral, social and cultural development. It promotes respect and open-mindedness towards others with different faiths and beliefs and encourages pupils to develop their sense of identity and belonging through self-awareness and reflection. The principle aim of RE is to engage pupils in an enquiry approach where they can develop an understanding and appreciation for the diversity of beliefs, cultural practices and influence of principle religions and worldviews in the local, national and wider global community. Children should explore and comment on the key aspects of religions, believer’s lives, their stories and traditions and their influence and recognise similarities and differences within and between religions

Skills Progression

At Leverton Primary, we envision RE curriculum impacting the pupils in the following ways:

  • The children will extend their knowledge and understanding of religions and beliefs.
  • The children will develop a religious vocabulary and interpret religious symbolism in a variety of form.
  • The children will engage in challenging questions about the meaning and purpose of life, beliefs, the self, and issues of right and wrong and what it means to be human.
  • The children will question, challenge themselves and each other. Investigate the world around them, experience the world first-hand, communicate effectively and seek to develop their understanding of themselves, each other, and the world around them.
  • The children will reflect on questions of meaning, offering their own thoughtful and informed insights into religious and secular worldviews.
  • The children will explore ultimate questions of beliefs and values in relation to a range of contemporary issues in an ever-changing society.
  • Through their R.E. learning, the children can make links between their own lives and those of others in their community and in the wider world, developing an understanding of other people’s cultures and ways of life. As such, R.E.is invaluable in an ever changing and shrinking world.
